Manual·Chapter 1 of 14

Quickstart

From download to a tracking plot. Every step is covered in detail in the chapters that follow.

  1. Install the host application. On a Mac, drag Spotlight Maestro to Applications and open it. On Windows, extract the zip and run Spotlight Maestro.exe. The application appears beside the clock and opens in the browser. This machine is the host: it holds the show.
  2. Open the licence. Double click the .sm licence file. The production appears, named on the sign-in screen. On the demo licence, sign in as demo / demo.
  3. Load a plot. Import an existing spreadsheet with Settings, Show Details, Import CSV; restore the sample show with Settings, Connections, Restore Show; or select + Add Cue and begin writing.
  4. Configure the spots. Settings, Show Details sets the number of followspots. Settings, Spots records each operator and position and the colour frames.
  5. Connect the devices. On each iPad or laptop, open http://spot.local:7770 (http://spot:7770 on Windows devices; Android scans a QR code from Settings, Connections). Each person signs in and selects their spot.
  6. Connect the console. In Settings, Console Sync, select the console type: ETC Eos, grandMA2 or grandMA3. Configure the matching output on the console (chapter 3 gives the exact steps for each), then press Save & Restart Listener. The toolbar indicator turns green when cues arrive.
  7. Verify. Fire a cue on the console; every screen moves to the matching spot cue. With no console available, use Send Test Cue in Settings, Console Sync.
  8. Run the show. Operators use the Tracking layout, the caller uses the Calling script, the production desk uses the Master plot. Edits made on any device appear on every other immediately.
  9. Print. Every layout has a PDF button: the master plot, the operator sheets, the spot summary and the calling script.
  10. Back up. Settings, Connections, Back Up Show writes the entire production, photographs included, to a single file. Do this at the end of every session.
